A deeper dive into 2026, specifically the 26 part

As we move through the change-on-steroids month of April 2026 — it’s a 5-month, meaning movement and change, movement and change — the meaning of 26 comes into sharper focus.

And the keyword that keeps coming up is discernment.
Discernment is carefully assessing something and determining whether we accept or agree to it or not, and by extension when applied to relationships of all kind: what’s in our best interests; what do we say yes to and what do we say no to. When applied to the world, the number 26 highlights the values of self-reliance, healthy interdependence, and choosing partnerships of mutual benefit and equal stature. If they’re not equal, it’s best to avoid them. Or, at the very least, they must gravitate towards equal stature over time. Specifically, it’s about not taking on other countries’ problems where they would become a clear imbalance for both.
The number 26 is expressed as an 8, which is about balance, harmony and justice. For example, conflicts facing a number of European countries as they attempt to integrate newcomers spring to mind; Ireland, Britain and Sweden have been mentioned in recent online chats. I don’t know enough to comment, but there is talk of widespread disquiet with European immigration. Whether it’s justified I can’t say, but it’s nonetheless an apt example of what some are calling a failure to integrate to achieve balance. See my earlier blog on One Nation. Note well: this is not so much about taking sides and assessing what is happening. Judgement calls, if we want to make them, could come later. Like the scales of justice, it’s a matter of weighing up the arguments.
Another way the 26 is expressed is through how we navigate — such a buzzword, atm, I know — through the minefield of world events in general. Specifically, I’m talking about layers in events. That is, an event or issue can have a number of layers — or, as is often the case these days, an event has a number of different interpretations and perspectives. An event may be reported one way by the mainstream media and quite differently by online citizen journalists and observers and on social media, which often gives rise to conspiracy theories. These alternative sources are popular, so they can’t be ignored because millions follow them or are influenced by them. Besides, the 8 encourages exploring the depths of those layers. In fact, wisdom derives from exploring the depths of those layers. This is the minefield we are roving about in these days. Like it or not, it’s here to stay, at least for the time being. So, we have little choice but to get used to it: ‘truth’ has just gotten a whole lot more subjective.
There are plenty of real-world examples of where the 26 is a sobering reminder to be discerning. The JFK/RFK/Martin Luther King assassinations; AIDS; The Oklahoma City bombing; Port Arthur; 9/11; Sandy Hook and many other mass shootings in the US; London bombings July 7, 2005 (a lot of 7s there!); Russiagate; covid; vaccines; US presidential election 2020; January 6, 2021 (US Capitol occupation); October 7, 2023 (Hamas attack on Israel) and so on. There would be many others. All the above have conspiracy theories attached to them; many believe them, many dismiss them. However, I can tell you all of the above have stories based on their numerology alone! I know well enough to tread carefully.
The key thing is to remember the 26 implores us to stay grounded, dispassionate, open to possibility, skeptical. That’s also mentally and emotionally healthy for us! We don’t know the full story; we rely on news reports that have their own agendas and biases (‘If it bleeds, it leads’) that are often not firsthand. We rarely have time to read a range of mainstream viewpoints let alone go down the myriad rabbit holes we are often encouraged to go wandering in. So best to stay detached. Interested, sure. But dispassionate. That’s crucial now. “I don’t know” is not a bad response!
Two more things
First, as noted above, 26 expresses as an 8, which also means ‘lessons’ that come on top of each other. For the world, that means issues and problems compounding each other and occurring side-by-side (that is, in parallel) and/or in quick succession. It keeps us on our toes and therefore, in order to not to be overwhelmed, we are advised to not fall into the trap of being quick to judge. Be more an observer.
Second, the 20 (The Awakening) expresses as a 2, which means being discerning is even more necessary because we are all more sensitive to revelation and disclosure. To avoid outbursts of unbridled emotion, which can accompany the 2 when pressured, again, keep as grounded and detached as possible throughout this year. Get off those bandwagons.
