Walking through this Lion’s Gate requires letting go of anything you’ve unwillingly taken on

August 8* every year is known as The Lion’s Gate, a time when the Earth aligns with Sirius and Leo, and when a new cycle unfurls for us to manifest and create together.

The number 8 is relentless, determined and ambitious, it won’t let up and let you rest. Lessons come on top of each other, so to speak. On such a day we are reminded to be nimble, flexible and focused on pushing through. And also to juggle or learn to think quickly and resolve any blocks as they arise, not later! On the bigger stage, the 8 plays out dramatically: in big institutions such as government and business. It also expresses itself through the legal system, with a strong emphasis on justice: “rewards received, punishments due”, as the Chaldeans put it. This is a day to gain wisdom and find balance. Turn the number 8 on its side and we are reminded of the necessity of seeking and finding balance; the pendulum may swing from side to side, but the challenge is to return to the centre — until it swings again because we are always learning something!

To add to the mix, the Compound/karmic number of August 8, 2022 is 22, which is about Submission and Caution, submitting to your higher will, rather than to the ego-based will often lacks a filter and therefore prone to taking on any and everything. Be discerning. Be cautious. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t take it on. Whatever you take on, may it be because you want to. No burdens. (This year I have been strong on letting go of burdens, the 22 of 2022.) However, the 22 is hidden from view so it won’t be so obvious, it'll be there in the background. You'll feel it from time to time throughout the day: a niggardly reminder not to just say ‘yes’ to everything.

To flesh it out and personalise it, to the Chaldeans, the number 22 is symbolised as “a good person, blinded by the folly of others, with a knapsack on his or her back, full of errors”. In the image s/he seems to offer no defence against a ferocious tiger about to attack him/her. It warns of illusion and delusion. It indicates a good person who lives in a fool’s paradise; a dreamer of dreams who awakens only when surrounded by danger, when it’s often too late. It warns of mistakes in judgement, of placing faith in those who are not trustworthy. Always exercise caution and watchfulness, the karmic obligation being to be more alert, and to realise your own power to change things. When you take personal responsibility and practise it, you can be in control of events, no longer blinded by the folly of others. Then you can see ideas achieved and dreams realised.

On the day: Monday August 8

So, take this opportunity to meditate on lifting your own burdens if you have them — and most of us have some — and encourage those close to you, in your community, your country, across the world to do the same. Anytime will do, though to balance the 8 energy, choose around 5am or 5pm; to enhance the energy choose 8am or 8pm, wherever you are in the world. As best you can, ground yourself, with your bare feet on the earth. Hopefully, it’s warm and dry where you are!

The 8:8 is a time to learn on many levels. Keep your eyes open (unless meditating!), be clear with your intent, with what you want and . . . walk through the gateway.

*The Lion’s Gate period began on July 26 (also an 8).

TL,DR (too long, didn’t read): Take this opportunity to let go of burdens, not take on new ones, just what you feel is right. No ifs, no buts. August 8 is also a moment in time to focus on learning whatever lessons are front and centre, to be relentless in checking for flaws in judgement and take charge of what you create about you and what unfolds around you.
